Detox: B.P.what-the-A?

According to Wikipedia:

Bisphenol A, commonly abbreviated as BPA, is an organic compound with two phenol functional groups. It is used to make polycarbonateplastic and epoxy resins, along with other applications.
Known to be estrogenic since the mid 1930s, concerns about the use of bisphenol A in consumer products were regularly reported in the news media in 2008 after several governments issued reports questioning its safety, prompting some retailers to remove products containing it from their shelves. A 2010 report from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raised further concerns regarding exposure of fetuses, infants and young children.[1] In September 2010, Canada became the first country to declare BPA as a toxic substance.[2][3] In the European Union and Canada, BPA use is banned in baby bottles.[4]

Did you read that...?
ESTROGENIC = ESTROGEN.
(do we really need MORE extrogen in our life?)
These chemicals when leached in the food/liquids we consume

Where do we find BPA-type plastics?
Plastic water bottles.
(even those 5-gallon jugs you get delivered to your home!)
The linings of food containers.
Beverage cans.
Some baby bottles.

Anything with the label type 7.

Look at the bottom of your plastic cup.
It should have a number which
indicates how/if this material is recycleable.

Harmful side effects from consuming Bisphenol A (BPA):
can include increased risk of breast and prostate cancers.
Infertility.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Insulin resistance (which, in turn, can lead to type 2 diabetes).

Solutions for a BPA free life?
Read the labels - plastics *should* be labeled 'BPA free'
Store food in glass containers
Stainless steel water containers

Here are some companies that are on board:
Rubbermaid has a very big list of items that are BPA free.
(they even have a list of their items that DO!)
Treehugger.com has a list of BPA-free canned foods.
Trader Joe's canned corn, canned beans, canned fish, canned poultry, and canned beef

I don't say all this to scare you - it is all information
that has absolutely astounded me when
I started doing my own research.

We've been blissfully ignorant and have had
Sparkletts water delivered to us since we've moved in.
We drink a LOT of water between the 3 of us:
over 20 gallons in a month...ALL delivered
to us in these BPA-full type 7 water bottles.
YIKES.
We just ordered the ZeroWater filtration system.

I found my information from a compilation of websites
and I encourage you to do your own research -
you can start where I did:
Each photo is linked to their site, too.

Don't worry, Morning T ~ your plastic cup is BPA free!

Tomorrow - we'll discuss another topic....!!
(get.excited.)

One more thing to be scared about in this crazy world! So glad to hear that my snazzy plastic cup is safe, I fill it with iced coffee every am when I go to work.

I keep hearing about this BPA stuff, but now I'm really freaked! It's really no wonder everyone around us has cancer, is it? I know that's morbid, but it's true! I hate thinking of all the horribles we keep ingesting!
